Join us at Cutler Memorial Library on Thursday, April 10, from 5:30–7:00 PM for the opening reception of Mortal Bloom, a photography exhibition by Hannah Carpenter Pitkin.


The exhibition features work created through the historic wet-plate collodion process, including tintypes and other alternative photographic methods. Developed in the nineteenth century, this process requires each image to be made and developed by hand while the plate is still wet, resulting in singular images marked by tonal depth, texture, and subtle unpredictability.


In Mortal Bloom, Pitkin uses this early photographic method to explore transience, fragility, and the fleeting nature of form—where chemistry, light, and timing all leave visible traces. Pitkin is a Vermont artist whose work spans photography, painting, and mixed media, with a particular interest in analogue processes that foreground the material life of an image.
