Paint & Pencil

I work in acrylic and mixed media on large scale canvases, typically ranging from 3×4 to 4×8 feet. My paintings explore themes of nature, the female figure, intimacy, and transformation; drawing on animal symbolism, and otherworldly imagery. I am interested in the tension between light and dark as a way of processing the duality of so many human experiences. Deep reds, blacks, and metallics anchor much of my work, with layered texture and bold brushwork and fine tip acrylic paint pens for detail. I love to work big, and then zone in on the details in an almost meditative way to bring a piece to it's conclusion. The emotional and physical relationship with large scale paintings is so very special to me. When I paint standing side by side with a canvas that is eye to eye with me, my work truly feels like an extension of my whole body.

My India and walnut ink work operates at a smaller scale, typically in the range of 12×16 to 18×24 inches. These pieces are looser and more spontaneous, focused on capturing eccentric characters; portraits and figures with a strange, unsettled mood.
